HANDYMAN / CONSTRUCTION SPECIALIST
OVERVIEW: We are looking for a skilled Handyman/Construction Specialist to maintain, repair, and build out our unique physical spaces. This role requires a high level of craftsmanship combined with a deep, respectful understanding of the specific structural and safety needs of the BDSM and sex-positive community. You will be responsible for ensuring our environments are not only functional and aesthetic but also structurally sound for specialized use.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform general construction, carpentry, and repair tasks to maintain and improve our San Francisco facilities.
- Collaborate with the creative team to build sets, stages, or private dungeon spaces that are both visually compelling and highly functional.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of all fixed equipment and structural elements to ensure they remain secure for high-intensity use.
- Manage routine maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical (minor), painting, and dry-walling.
- Source and procure high-quality materials that are body-safe, durable, and appropriate for a fetish environment.
- Collaborate with the RSV Manager to prioritize projects and manage timelines for facility upgrades.
- Maintain an organized and safe workshop, ensuring all tools are properly serviced and stored.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized large-scale projects as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- In-depth knowledge of construction techniques, with a specific focus on load-bearing requirements for suspension and bondage.
- Deeply culturally aligned with BDSM and sex-positive values; comfortable working in and around fetish environments.
- Strong understanding of materials (wood, metal, leather, plastics) and their appropriate applications in a BDSM context.
- Ability to work discreetly and professionally within a sensitive, high-trust environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to create custom solutions for unique structural challenges.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with a diverse team of creators and staff.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing project priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
